description This research aims to describe the types of code mixing used on Debate of Political Party and to describe cause of Code Mixing by representative Debate of Political Party This research is a qualitative research. The data are taken from recording, transcribing and classifying the data related with English code mixing in the Debate Party. . The object of the study is English code mixing used by the representative from Demokrat and Golkar Party in Debate of Political Party on TV ONE. The object collected from one episode: 22/2/2009 at 07.00 pm. The result of study shows that, the type of code mixing on debate political party there are found Situational Code Mixing and Metaphorical Code Mixhing. In Situational Code Mixing there found 12 datum or about 85,8%. In Metaphorical Code Mixing there are found 2 datum or about 14,2%. In metaphorical code Mixing there found need filling motive and Prestige filling motive. In need feeling motive there are found 6 datum or about 43,8% and in prestige feeling motive there also found 9 datum or about 64,2%. The participant on the party debate are using situational code mixing, because the situation and the participant within the debate is only several and certain participant involve. On the party debate, it usually consists of several participants with a high education capability, so code mixing here is very important und useful to stress the main purposes of the debate. That’s why situational code mixing is used more than metaphorical code mixing. While the use of need feeling motive and prestige feeling motive has the same (balance) datum because both has similar uses.
