Summary: | This research studies about the English slang used in dictionary of Hello
English Magazine. The objects used to be analyzed are slang words that include
the morphological process. The writer takes the data from the English magazine
“Hello”.
In collecting the data, the writer uses documentation method, which is
divided into three techniques. First is collecting some columns of teen slang
dictionary in Hello English Magazine. Second is selecting slang word in which
the morphological processes of teen slang probably occur. Third is grouping the
data according to the morphological process of teen slang by looking the slang
words. The research is describing the forms and the morphological processes of
teen slang in dictionary of Hello English Magazine. To achieve these objectives,
he classifies the data based on the grammatical category to formulate the forms of
teen slang in dictionary, and then he applies the morphological processes
according to Katamba.
Based on the result of the data analysis, the writer finds three forms of
slang. First is word, which is divided into single form and complex form. Noun,
verb, and adjective are classified into single form. Complex form is divided into
affixation, compound, abbreviation, and blending. Second is phrase, which is
divided into verb phrase, adjective phrase, and noun phrase. Third is sentence,
which is divided into declarative, exclamatory, and imperative sentence. Related
to the morphological process, the writer finds nine kinds of morphological
processes. They are affixation, compounding, conversion, clipping, blending,
backformation, abbreviation, coinage, and replacement. |
